Modeling of geocoronal solar wind charge exchange events detected with Suzaku

چکیده

A model of geocoronal solar wind charge exchange (SWCX) emission was built and compared to five Suzaku detections bright SWCX events. An exospheric neutral hydrogen distribution model, cross sections, ion data taken with the ACE WIND satellites, magnetic field models Earth's magnetosphere are all combined in order predict time-variable depending on line-of-sight directions satellite. The modeled average intensities O VII lines were consistent observed ones within a factor three four out cases except for an event which direction toward night side high-latitude magnetosheath major geomagnetic storm observed. Those VIII underestimated by or more cases. On other hand, light curves reproduced after being scaled ratios between intensities. In particular, short-term variations due traversing cusp regions during orbital motion satellite reproduced. These results discussed context uncertainties.

XMM-Newton Observation of Solar Wind Charge Exchange Emission

We present an XMM-Newton spectrum of diffuse X-ray emission from within the solar system. The spectrum is dominated by probable C VI lines at 0.37 keV and 0.46 keV, an O VII line at 0.56 keV, O VIII lines at 0.65 keV and ∼ 0.8 keV, Ne IX lines at ∼ 0.92 keV, and Mg XI lines at ∼ 1.35 keV. This spectrum is consistent with that expected from charge exchange emission between the highly ionized sol...

The Solar Wind Charge - eXchange contribution to the Local Soft

The major sources of the Soft X-ray Background (SXRB), besides distinct structures as supernovae and superbubbles (e.g. Loop I), are: (i) an absorbed extragalactic emission following a power law, (ii) an absorbed thermal component (∼2×106 K) from the galactic disk and halo, (iii) an unabsorbed thermal component, supposedly at 106 K, attributed to the Local Bubble and (iv) the very recently iden...

Source regions of solar wind disappearance events

[1] During the period 1999–2002 there have been three instances, in May 1999, March 2002, and May 2002, respectively, when the solar wind densities at 1 AU dropped to abnormally low values (<0.1 cm ) for extended periods of time (12–24 h). These longlasting low-density anomalies observed at 1 AU are referred to as ‘‘solar wind disappearance events’’ and in this paper, we locate the solar source...

Flickering Events in Wind and Solar Power

This paper reports stochastic properties of renewable wind and solar energy resources by studying their conditional probability distribution functions (cpdf) in different time lags. The empirical results are obtained for data of global horizontal irradiance measured by a single sensor and the power output of a single wind turbine, as well as for an averaged solar sensor field and an aggregated ...

Evidence for Solar-Wind Charge-Exchange X-Ray Emission from the Earth’s Magnetosheath

We report an apparent detection of the CVI 4p to 1s transition line at 459 eV, during a long-term enhancement (LTE) in the Suzaku north ecliptic pole (NEP) observation of 2005 September 2. The observed intensity of the line is comparable to that of the CVI 2p to 1s line at 367 eV. This is strong evidence for the charge-exchange process. In addition to the CVI lines, emission lines from OVII, OV...
